“I would like to honor the remarkable foresight of our partners at China Agricultural University, who had the vision to create the International College Beijing in partnership with the University of Colorado Denver in 1994 – 23 years ago,” said CU Denver Chancellor Dorothy Horrell at the June 27th ICB commencement ceremonies in Beijing, China. Each smiling student who walked the graduation stage to receive his or her diploma represented another good reason to celebrate this unique partnership, the first and only agreement of its kind in China. Amid cheers, applause, and a few tears of joy, twenty-eight international students celebrated their graduation from Level 5 at the ESL Academy, University of Colorado Denver on July 21st. They had arrived in Denver from countries around the world – China, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Panama, Chile, Libya, and Vietnam – and had quickly become classmates, “study buddies”, friends, and a welcome addition to the ESL Academy family. Sharmila Anand Honored With Heroines of Health Award

“What I have seen, even from only two years ago, is how young girls are believing more and more in their own abilities,” said Dr. Sharmila Anand, Managing Director for SEHPL in India. “When educators or family members give a ‘pat on the back’ to a child at the right time for a job well done, it can affect her for the rest of her life.”
Dr. Anand, who has given such congratulatory ‘pats’ to thousands of young women throughout her career as a social entrepreneur, doctor, and educator, was recently honored at the inaugural Annual Heroines of Health Awards ceremony at the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland. GE Healthcare and Women in Global Health joined together in bestowing the award to thirteen women from around the world who have been champions for improving global health for all areas of society. Also dubbed “The Four-Minute Miracle”, the system incorporates high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts within short bursts of time to create maximum aerobic and anaerobic benefits. VO2 max, which is the measurement of the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense exercise, increases; resting metabolic rate after the exercise and glucose metabolism are also improved. What’s the first thing you do when you learn something new? Share it with a friend or family member. Lulu Alsalem, who graduated in 2016 from the ESL Academy, University of Colorado Denver, was pleased to discover how well the Academy had prepared her for university when she entered classes at CU Denver’s College of Engineering and Applied Science in Fall 2016. Naturally, she shared the good news with her younger brother, Doaij, who was living in Kuwait and interested in earning a dentistry degree in the United States. In May 2017, the siblings celebrated together, along with dozens of CU Denver friends, faculty, and staff, as Doaij and his Level 5 classmates graduated from the ESL Academy. Read More
