International Students Gain Valuable Experience at Prestigious ICOST Conference

Learning About Smart Homes, Assistive Technologies, Robotics & Health Telematics

Through a collaboration between the Department of Bioengineering and the Office of International Affairs, University of Colorado Denver, five outstanding international students served as volunteer helpers and attended the 12th Annual International Conference on Smart Homes, Health Telematics, and Assistive Technology (ICOST) this summer. For eleven years, ICOST has been held in countries around the world – France (2003), Singapore (2004), Canada (2005), Northern Ireland (2006), Japan (2007), the United States (2008), France (2009), Korea (2010), Canada (2011), Italy (2012), and Singapore (2013; this was the first time that it has been held in Denver, Colorado. Graduating Class of International Students Appreciate University Experience

At this year’s International Student Spring 2014 Graduation Celebration, hosted by International Student and Scholar Services, Office of International Affairs, 175 international students met to share their successes and excitement as they prepared for spring graduation. The festivities took place in the Tivoli building on the University of Colorado Denver downtown campus.

Three outstanding students, whose grade point average ranged from 3.7+ to 3.9+, hailed from diverse global regions. But they all spoke about one thing they had in common – how much they had enjoyed their educational experience at the University of Colorado Denver. Read More

Lively conversations – spoken completely in English – are taking place every week between American and international students from around the world through the Conversation Partners Program at the ESL Academy, University of Colorado Denver. The program offers lunchtime and after-class discussion sessions for international students to practice and improve their English language skills as they enjoy learning with fellow students.

IEEE Life Member Graduate Study Fellowship

Ashanthi Maxworth, Sri Lanka

University of Colorado Denver PhD student, Ashanthi Maxworth, student has been awarded the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) Life Member Graduate Study Fellowship in Electrical Engineering, which carries a $10,000 per year stipend paid. Maxworth completed her BS at the University of Moratuwa, which is the top technical university in Sri Lanka.

Engineering Senior Design Team wins First Place at Shell Eco-Marathon

HOUSTON – Determined to be the first team from the University of Colorado Denver to participate in and win the Shell Eco-Marathon Americas competition – which encourages students to design the most fuel-efficient vehicles in the world – nine members of the university’s Mechanical Engineering Senior Design class achieved their goal on April 7. The team won first place in their category for a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle they designed and built that achieved a maximum of 205 miles per gallon.  (Last year’s winner in the same category achieved 169 miles per gallon.) Paving the Way: PhD/Teacher Joins in Research Aimed At Improving Colorado’s Highways
