Cause for Celebration : Global Study Scholarship

Students in degree programs ranging from architecture to public health to international business recently celebrated their newfound opportunities to study in countries ranging from South Korea to England to Cuba. Each student has a unique and compelling reason for participating in their program, and they all share one thing in common: their experiences abroad will be made possible by the Global Study Scholarship offered by the office of Global Education: Study Abroad, University of Colorado Denver.

New “Crime & Criminal Justice” Study Abroad Program in London
May 19, 2015 | Office of International AffairsLondon – Twelve eager students traverse the cobblestone streets, catching the tube from site to site, pausing to scribble notes in their journals and listen attentively to trials and lectures. These students were participating in the Crime & Criminal Justice in London Global Study program, which ran for the first time over the 2015 Winterim. This intensive, two-week study abroad program focused on the impact of England on the contemporary practice of criminal justice.
“It’s a great opportunity for students to expand their worldview and see how other systems handle the universal problem of crime, often in very different ways,”
explained Lonnie Schaible, PhD, Assistant Professor and faculty leader of the program.

Celebrating Diversity : Amplifying CU Denver’s Rich Blend of Culture

Their campus is a microcosm of the world, so a group of senior-seminar students decided to do something to celebrate and amplify CU Denver’s rich diversity.
“In our class we realized we all spoke multiple languages and had international travel backgrounds, so we decided to use that to connect international students with domestic students across campus,”
said Tess Farmer, a student in the University Honors and Leadership (UHL) capstone class. Farmer said the team initially struggled to come up with a project idea, but their shared global interest—and using it to encourage fellow students to check out the many cultural events on campus—gave them a strong focus. announced Don Elliman, CU Anschutz Chancellor at the inaugural University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus Global Crossroads event, hosted by the Office of International Affairs. The event, which will be hosted yearly, brought together leaders from the Denver business community and Colorado government, members of international organizations, and members of the university to dialogue, network, and enjoy an informative panel discussion surrounding global engagement. The panelists’ topics focused on fostering internationalization and sustainable growth of industry and education sectors in Denver and the growth of Colorado’s economy; updates were also shared about the multi-faceted ways that the University of Colorado Denver | Anschutz Medical Campus, a major public urban research university, plays a strong supporting role. Reflections from Berlin: Returnees Share Lessons on Sustainability
April 1, 2015 | Office of International AffairsThe nine students who participated in the inaugural semester of the University of Colorado Denver’s Sustainability in Berlin program last fall are back home, empowered with a new perspective on themselves and the world we live in. For these students, the semester-long program was an informative learning experience, offering both theoretical and practical lessons on sustainability. The students completed two courses focusing on issues of sustainability, participated in internships facilitated through a partnership with the renowned Ecologic Institute, and adapted to daily life in Berlin, a global capital and living classroom of sustainability.
